Creating compelling content is one thing, but getting that content out there is quite another. In order to have a successful content campaign you need to get your content in front of people.

For many digital marketers creating compelling content is easy, getting that content linked to is the difficult part. To have a successful content campaign you need to get your content in front of people and there are many ways to do this.

  1. Share on social - This is probably the most popular way to promote content. Most blogs already have social media set up and are pretty good about posting their content once it’s created. Blogs need to be posted to all the social media sites they can. Don’t limit your social media presence to just Facebook and Twitter.
  2. Share often - Blog posts will often only be shared once, with the blog not being shared again until a new post is created. It’s important to get out of this habit as often audiences miss updates. Share your post once it’s posted, again a few days later, and again the following week. Revisit your older blog posts and share those as well.
  3. Ask employees to share - You’ve shared your article on your business’ social media accounts and even on your personal accounts. Some of your employees might be happy to share the articles as well.
  4. Thank sharers - Once another person retweets or links to your blog post, be sure to thank them. This will make them more likely to Like and Share your articles in the future. When you create a new article let the sharers of previous articles know you have new content. If they’ve shared before, they are likely to again.
  5. Share at optimal times of day - There have been many studies on when is the best time to share on social media. There are multiple factors to consider when you post to social media including, time zone, industry, day of the week, etc. Every social media platform is different as well; for instance research shows more engagement on Twitter during the middle of the week between 12-3pm, where Facebook is typically higher on Saturday and Sunday.
  6. Social bookmarking - There are hundreds of social bookmarking sites out there (some with more users than others) and these are great places to share your posts with specific groups. A good example is Reddit, which has thousands of sub categories related to different niches. To increase the possibility of engagement make sure to become part of the communities. Post articles from other sources, comment often, and help answer questions.
  7. Email newsletter - Build an option for users to sign up for a newsletter on your site. Create a list of users who want receive your newsletter, and email them when new content is created. Include new and old articles within your emails, also mention new products, discounts, etc.
  8. Social sharing through email - When you send your newsletter email give users buttons to share the article directly to social media. This gives them the ability to quickly share with their followers instead of opening the article, then opening social media, then sharing.
  9. Contact industry influencers - Once you have an article created, contact some industry influencers through social media and let them know about your content. If they find it compelling and relevant to what they post they are likely to share it with their followers. Keep in mind influencers get contacted by many people, so try and stand out and don’t get frustrated if some don’t respond.
  10. Feature other bloggers - Get some information from industry leaders. Contact other bloggers before posting your article and ask them to provide information on your post. People are more likely to share and link to an article they have been a part of.
