What are web services?

Web services are services offered by websites over the web using some common language like XML.

By websites we mean websites which contain information that we want. We mean book listings from Amazon, web page and web page count information from Google, auction listings information from eBay, web site usage information form Alexa.

By services we mean a way to get at that information.

Web services empowers you

Any person using any computer with any operating system and any language can get some useful information from any other computer, no matter its operating system or language.

The languages have become as unimportant as the operating systems. It's not important whether Google or Amazon sits on linux or Windows. We just use the interface presented to us through a web page.

That means you can work in an Excel spreadsheet on Windows and utilise information from Google, Amazon and eBay if you want to. You don't need to worry if they're written in Java or Visual Basic or some language you don't understand. You only worry about 'get listings', 'get books by philip k. dick', 'get top web sites for the keyword mp3'. The interface is in a domain we all understand. It's in plain business English.

It's a revolution because it is empowering you, the user. You are no longer waiting for these websites to add the features that you want. You now have the power to create the features you want on the platform you want with the software that you want.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need regular access to the Wordtracker data?

The data is updated weekly. New terms are added to the list and old ones are removed on a weekly basis. To have the clearest and most current picture of the web you will need access to our latest snapshot.

Why is the Wordtracker cost per search higher than API's?

You get more query horsepower. Compare us to Google or Alexa where you are only allowed to enter one keyword at a time. With Wordtracker you can enter up to 100 keyword searches in one call.

Are we allowed to use your data within any software application?

No. When you send us your proposal we question you about what you will be using the data for. We will not supply the API if any uses conflict with our standard terms of service.
