Why has visual search suddenly become a thing, and what can you do to optimize for it?

Search engines used to be bad at processing and recognising images, but with recent advances in tech this is no longer the case.  As a result, visual search - searching using images rather than text - has taken off.  Upload an image and the search engine can now rapidly complete the complex task of figuring out what you want, and providing relevant results.

Visual search is quicker and simpler than typing in text, and can also express concepts hard to put into words, so it's not surprising its popularity is growing. Major tech players are focusing on visual search and incorporating tools into their platforms.

MDG Advertising’s infographic details what makes visual search so great, what it looks like in action and how marketers can optimize for it.
