Video notes

With regular keyword research using Wordtracker, you can expand into new markets and stay one step ahead of your competition.

  • It takes time to get to the top. Search engines take time accepting new sites into their listings. It's one of the ways of filtering out spammers who try to cheat their way to the top. It also requires a lot of content and inbound links.
  • Search engine optimization never stops. There are always more niches out there and within any niche you are currently targeting there are always more keywords to optimize on.
  • Don't stop optimizing. Your competition won't. You should look to refine your SEO efforts once a month. Use the Wordtracker Keyword Researcher to dig deep into a specific keyword and Wordtracker Keyword Universe to suggest related terms that you might not have thought of.

Actions

  1. There are always more existing niches to find and target with new content.
  2. At least once a month, continue to look for new niches in the Wordtracker Keyword Universe, entering your original root keywords and new ones to locate emerging niche markets. This data changes all the time.
  3. For existing and new niches, enter seed words into Keyword Researcher and look for new keywords in the results.
  4. Check for changes in the relative importance of your target niches.
  5. Beat your competition by monitoring your industry's news stories for new keywords for today and the future, eg for new products, buzzwords, shows, names and personalities.
  6. Continue optimizing your web content. As you find new keywords, create more content and attract more keyword rich inbound links.
  7. Refine your PPC strategy. Due to changing buyer behaviour and your improved copywriting ability you can improve the return from investment from PPC.
  8. Continue building links. New niches will need relevant inbound links to soar in the search engines. Continue building on your existing pages too.
  9. Get creative. Keep trying to find new and inventive ways to send traffic to your site. E.g. use Google alerts to look for new events in your niche. Stay in touch with your industry as it evolves.
  10. Stay ahead of your competition by continuing to find new inbound links for your different niches.
