Getting started with Link Builder transcript 2: Start with URLs

Posted by on 26 September 2011

As we saw in the first Getting Started video, just a single keyword is enough to immediately find you thousands of link prospects.

But you can also get thousands of link prospects just as quickly by entering URLs,

Here’s the first screen you see when you log in to Link Builder.

You enter URLs in this box – up to 10 at a time.

Now, what URLs should you enter?

Well, suppose you sell fountain pens online, where would you start looking for link prospects?

Leading brands in the fountain pen market would be a good place to start.

fountain pens

Because they are leading brands, then many quality link prospects will already link to them.

We’ll start by putting in the root domain of some of the largest fountain pen brands.

Using root domains will give you the largest number of link prospects.

We’ll not include the historic index at the moment

Next enter the domain that you’re optimizing for – so we can check who is already linking to you.

We’ll leave ‘edit my sources’ unchecked for the moment too.

Then hit ‘create my link building campaign’.

We’ll collect link prospects …

and organize them into different strategies for you.

Here’s what Link builder does behind the scenes:

We collect link prospects based on who is linking to the URLs that you have entered

So in this case, we’ll collect sites that are linking to parkerpen.com, pelikan.com, sheaffer.com and so on.

These are your link prospects.

Next, for each link prospect, we look for clues as to whether it is a blog, a directory, a shopping site and so on.

Is it a blog?

Finally, we present the link prospects organized into different strategies for you.
