  1. Assuming the prize is the same I would much rather race against 5000 grannies than 10 gold medallists any day.

  2. Is it me, or is it that all the images in this article are broken :-(

  3. Sorry about that. I've fixed the images and added some captions.

  4. to Patrick: the problem even if you run against those 5000 grannies, is that the stadium is so big, that there is still only 1 line to cross in order to win, and 5000 grannies is a big bunch of ladies to go over! ;) furthermore, you do not have the choice: the 10 gold medalists are your true competition!

  5. Mike,

This data looks great! I am excited to use the tool. Unfortunetaly we stopped paying for both Word Tracker and Keyword Discovery about 3 months after Google released their search metrics. However, we have struggled to create a viable streamlined solution for choosing the low hanging keyword fruit.

I think this is our answer, hopefully we'll be back soon.

  6. Hi I was one of the people who believed in the phrase if you build it they will come. Well I did not believe it entirely. I believed that a few would come and then I could build my business on word of mouth and referrals. I am not sure about all this SEO but this article has helped me makes sense of it all. I am going to get right to work on a plan. Expressions – A revitalized experience.

  7. Voila! This is what we've been waiting for!

The implications of having such a large index are quite profound! This is really the first time the low hanging fruit could be so easily identified.

  8. Thank you for developing this tool. In your opinion do ranking fluctuate daily, even hourly? What are some of the factors that cause this. I plan on using this tool on my new site.

  9. Hi Mike,

Usually, i use Google Keyword External Tools, so how about Wordtracker when it compare with Google Keyword External Tools?

    Thanks

  10. Mike -- That was an enlightening post.

I've been always skeptical on software update on their big promises in new version.

BUT the new WordTracker tool is worth it - Thanks & awesome~

  11. Impressive, a few months ago I move to another keyword research service but with the new keyword tools in wordtracker I'll have to subscribe again.

BTW - I like Majestic SEO a lot...

  12. There are so many keyword tools to choose from. I think I've finally found the one that works. Thank you for developing it and please keep improving it so we can feel secure knowing it's one of the best.

  13. I think Mike and the team at Wordtracker have created a super keyword research research tool and with the new Majestic keyword data added, Wordtracker is truly back on track.. well done guys..

  14. One of the hardest part of keyword research was actually understanding the metrics of it all.

This tool is fantastic in helping anyone to better understanding of how to research and use data to beat the competition.

    Keep it up.

  15. Thanks very much for this article. In doing some recent research, I was amazed by the number of keywords that I had never heard of, in a field I have been familiar with for over 10 years. The combination of the quantity of information and the targeted precision of the keyword research from Wordtracker, I have found to be quite remarkable.

  16. I didn't realize how much better the new Wordtracker was until after my free trial expired.

It would have been a great help to have the home page promoting the new Wordtracker tools link to this page explaning why the new tools are so great. Unfortunately, I thought the old tools were just as good and relied on the old "number of competing pages" research instead.

Thanks for explaining why the new tools are so much better.

  17. College Camp: rankings can fluctuate a lot over time. Some are more settled than others. More importantly, they vary a lot based on where you are in the world and the settings on your Google account (if you 're logged in).

  18. I wish this had been the introductory article; the first thing for a beginner to read. I could never be sure if higher or lower KEI numbers were better... also using the sort on KEI numbers .... I stepped through the first 3 videos - have lots of keywords, not sure what to do with them until reading this article I would recommend new and beginner see this article before watching the videos sent to me when I signed up. Thanks, Bill

  19. Really helpful article - I think I'll be signing up!

  20. If I enter "best types of training" into Wordtracker I get no results. If I enter "best types of training" into the Google search engine I get 444K results.

What does this mean? Am I the only one that tried searching with those 4 words? Is that why Wordtracker shows no results?

One video I saw advises just using Google to narrow down a keyword phrase by adding modifiers to a seed word.

  21. Hi Richard,

I think you might be confusing number of web sites competing for "best types of training'" (as shown on a Google search results page) with number of searches made (as suggested by Wordtracker).

    Does that make sense?

    Mal

  22. Hey guys, It would be awesome if you stored the number of anchor text link backs for the top 10 competing sites in your word tracker database. this way you could display a very helpful result like CAF1P and CAF9P Competition Anchor For 1st Position and Competition Anchor For 9th Position now those numbers would have some serious value. and if you stored them in the DB you could index them to get around your problem with loading taking too long. I know this can be done manually but would be amazing if you could use this data in the research phase.

  23. Is it still possible with Wordtracker to see the general "Phrase Match" competition for a keyword phrase along with the IAAT competition?

  24. Ryan: something like that is on the flight path. Imagine comparing that top 10 profile to your own site's thus having relative (to your site) competition of the sites you have to beat ;)

  25. Joel: If I understand you correctly (and not sure I do), just configure your initial search to 'Phrase match'.

  26. I'm a rank beginner at all this, and often when I read articles I don't have a clue as to what the author is talking about. Thanks for explaining some of the acronyms and savvy jargon. All this stuff makes my eyes glaze over!

  27. It looks like Wordtracker is a mandatory tool. I have tried to avoid it for a long time but.....

I am aggravated by big "G". I have been building sites, always checking the phrase match for competition. Does this work? NO! why?

I made a tool to do this automatically. Yippee, right? wrong. My computer got tagged by big "G" and started to give me erroneous information. I would get all excited when I saw 18,000 searches and then only 10 in the exact phrase match. but later I would see it jump to 1,700,000. (It would take a week for my computer to give me good results)

So now i am asking for your best price seeing that there is no real choice, but to use your service.

I have seo elite and keyword elite but they is better for one KW here and one KW there.

Do you have any specials better than your 1 year special?

I guess that you can use this as a testimonial.

    Mike H.

  28. Mike: you could try starting with a 7-day free trial and then upgrading to the 1-year option.

  29. Questions

    1. Does this mean that we can just ignore looking at "phrase match" in trying to gauge our competition? Or do we also need to take that into consideration?

    2. With regards to IAAT, what is considered low hanging fruit? your example shows "McDonald's nutrition facts" as having a IAAT of 61. 61 competing pages would put you on page 6 or 7 right? can you elaborate on this?

  30. One more ??

    1. I just want to confirm that searches = daily searches....right?

    mike

  31. Being a "newbie" at this, it is really great to see someone explaining things in a little more detail - Thank you! Great job! LKing

  32. This is a really powerful tool! I've just signed up for the free trial. And thank you for this article. It's very informative. Just one thing I want to ask. What KEI values are good? I'm just starting up. What KEI values should I aim for?

    Cheers

  33. is the "free" word tracker "search" number daily, monthly or yearly?

  34. How do you find the OCI (Opportunity for Commercial Intent) for each keyword.

The microniche finder and the New Keyword Elite 2.0 have this option.

To me this is important when selling physical products because I really only want to focus on keywords that have a high commercial intent...

    Thanks
